Angry Berry_Chelt vs. Abbey

Hi everyoone. I am new to the site and just wanted to say hi to everyone in the same boat as me. Can't believe Abbey has been charging my stupid amounts of money and I didn't realize there was anything I could do about it. They have nearly cost me my house and my sanity, and I reckon they owe me around 5 grand so far! Anyway, good luck to everyone trying to get Abbey to cough up, will let you all know how it goes.

Another month and another £315 charged this month even though I have cancelled all my direct debits including my mortgage. They really are bastards.

Exclamation Re: Berry_Chelt vs. Abbey

Hi everyone, Just about to send off my data protection letter. Does anyone know if emailing complaints to ask for bank charges back will jeapodise my claim as it gives them a heads up that I'm not happy?

hi - I'd follow the step by step procedure and start with the Data Protection Act letter - emailing them won't jeopardise anything I wouldn't have thought, I personally (and this is only IMHO) don't think the banks give two hoots to complaints about high bank charges until they receive the court claim - then they know we are serious about it!!

Hey everyone.

Has anyone had trouble opening a new bank account due to bad credit history?

I am getting a tad worries that I won't be able to open up a parachute account as things have got so bad, mainly due to Abbey charges snowballing out of control.

I lost my job about 6 months ago due to ill health (stress caused by Abbey mainly) and because of a disabilty. Things had always been a bit tight money wise, but losing my job was the last straw. I have cancelled all my direct debits including my mortgage mainly because even the months I do have enought to cover my mortgage the bank takes most of it in charges and becasue I am a few quid overdrawn. So far since March I have been charged over £950 in silly charges.

So if anyone is in the same boat with a crap credit history the question is can we open a another bank account?

Good luck to one and all.

Hi Berry,

i'm new to this having just totted up my charges and put together my firts letter - reckon it's in excess of £5k once the interest is taken into account.

Like you I am concerned about them closing my account - I searched the internet for basic bank accounts and found a number that will entertain people with poor credit history - mine is appalling thanks to Abbey - used to have my mortgage with them - thaty was a hoot -

Anyway - the major high street banks will open an account with limited functionality - I've got one in principle with NatWest that gives me everything hat Abbey did including a solo card. If I can find the site that provided the list of banks i'll let you know.

Will keep an eye on your claim - good luck !!
