Question New Starter Needs Slight Help

Having read all the horror stories on this website, I am printing off the Data Protection Act letter as we speak. However, I have a daft question. My bank is Abbey and someone kindly put where to send the letter to but who do I make the cheque out to for the £10 fee as I don't want them to return it as a delaying tactic

Is this really worth doing???

Are we meant to guess which bank? You've posted the same question 4 times now - 3 times in the Cahoot forum and once in the Abbey forum. Your question has already been answered but you have still kept posting the same question.

Who do you bank with? If you bank with both banks then the cheques should be made payable to 'Cahoot' and 'Abbey' respectively.

Sorry if these forums can be a bit misleading. they are very difficult to follow when you first start. I have trouble now even though i have been a forum user for many months. i have only just learnt today how to reply to a question or answer using the quote from the person posting it.(the area in grey in a reply box)
I suggest you have your own thread.
Go to the Abbey forum and chose thread starter, from there choose a wise name that you will know,(something unique to yourself) then we can get the mods to move all your posts into it and from there you can pose all your questions in that thread.
I know from experience it is easy sometimes to come across someone elses thread and start asking questions in there, which means you get sidetracked.
It really would be helpful if you read other peoples threads but pose your questions about your own case in your own thread as it makes it easier for the mods and experienced people to help you. Also then the experienced people can see exactly at what stage of the claim you are at.
I hope this helps and that i have done the right thing here, it is daunting to use these forums. I have had as many as 12 windows open at once and could not find my way round and ended up totally lost going from one thread to another.
In the end i closed them all down and started again which of course i lost the subject i was looking for.
Maybe someone could sort of draft out a step by step instruction manual for newbies on how to use the forum to the best advantage.
I may even try to do it myself but i make no promises it will be any good, i am still struggling

See i just tried to send the link to bankfodders guide to using these forums, and i did not get that right. I really do not know even know now how to do it. So please read these instructions that i copied and pasted here if you cannot get to the page that i pasted above,
Maybe one of the mods will give me a clue how i do this if possible.
Its ok it does it on its own when you actually submit the reply. (I just found the tick in the box that says submit the link)

Question Alli Vs. Abbey

Many thanks for the kind person giving some guidance. However, I have another daft question. When it says that Abbey have to reply within 40 days, is this calender days or working days?

Sorry if I appear to be a bit dense. I am just abit fraught at the moment, having to juggle money to pay Peter to pay Paul and Abbey!!

Threads merged - please do not start a new thread for each question.

The 40 days is 40 calendar days.

many thanks for merging this ladies questions. she really is a novice forum user.
i have been trying to help her with finding her way around the site.
i think she has got the hang of it a bit better now.
a few pms and we are away.
It might be an idea if we had a set of instructions on how to use a forum maybe.
even now i have been using this for 5 months and have only just learnt how to reply using quotes from someones text in a previous post.
we must not assume that everyone knows how to use a forum if i might be so bold as to say that. if i offend anyone i apologise.

Question Re: Alli Vs. Abbey

Can I ask another daft question. My husband got into severe trouble 2 years ago, subsequently we had to take out a loan to pay off this debts. About one yaer ago, I cancelled his account (with his permission) and now he does not have an account anywhere. Can I claim back unlawful charges on his account even though it is closed.

Yes you can claim for closed accounts. This is covered in the FAQs - read through them thoroughly and you'll find lots of useful information and answers to questions you haven't even though of yet!

Question Re: Alli Vs. Abbey

Hi, I am still confused. I sent a letter to Abbey on 28 June and received a response letter dated 5 July. This is a snippet of the letter"

I would like to advise you that under a Data Protection Act Request, you will only receive the transactions that are currently held on our systems. These will be forwarded to you within 40 days, free of charge, under separate cover. Any earlier transactions have been archived onto microfiche, which is not covered by the Data Protection Act. These archived transactions will not therefore be supplied to you under a Data Protection Act request and will not be subject to the 40 day ruling. We can however supply details of the transactions held on the microfiche on payment of an admin fee of £10 for multiple monthly statements per account that have been archived. It is clear from your request that you require the transactional information that is held on the microfiche records. In order to avoid any additional delays, we will therefore us the £10 that you have sent with your Data Protection Act request as payment for the microfiche records that you need.

I am aware, like many others have realised that this is a delaying tactic, but am not really sure what this means. Do I now have to pay another £10 fee. Can someone please let me know how I can respond to this letter. Does the 40 days now start again from my next letter or do I take it from when I sent the letter?
