Abbey National bank charges

Hi, I hope someone can give me some advice. I spent most of my money in my account in November and went over my available balance. I received my statement a few days ago and they are charging me £60 on the 26th (evil). I am on incapacity benefit and only get £80 a week so I don't know how I am going to survive. I will most likely go overdrawn again (because they (edit) my income for next week) and they will charge me yet again. I phoned the bank and talked to a man named Chris who sounded helpful but wouldn't refund the charges. I asked him if the court case going on went in the favour of the consumers would I then be able to get my charges back. He then said that it is a common misconception that the case will change anything for other people. He said it is one man's case and that my charges are lawful and it won't affect me. Is this true or is he lying? Is it wise to wait till the case is over before I try and reclaim?

Hi Dmag,

I've moved your post to the Abbey forum so that you can get more help from fellow Abbey claimers. The test case is being brought by the OFT on behalf of all consumers and if they win then it will affect all consumers and banks will not be able to apply their current charging regimes.

You can make a start on your claim now by sending off your Subject Access Request. Have a read through the step by step instructions in the FAQs

I advise U to read, read + read again the MANY different Threads on the Website for the next few days, BEFORE U even think about starting out!...

A good start for U personally, would be to research about 'parachute' current accounts asap...
