Angry Abbey Unauthorised Overdraft

Hi

I'm new here and am hoping that someone can give me some advice!

I bank with Abbey , and I only have a visa electron account (so can't go into an overdraft).

Recently, four of my direct debits went unpaid on one day (from 2 different companies). I was charged for these, which caused me to go into an overdraft. Abbey then charged me for going into an overdraft, when I specifically asked for an electron account so that I couldn't! What can I do?

You didn't go into overdraft, they forced you into that position when they applied their penalty charges, which they now disguise by calling them "fees for service" by authorising your "Instant Overdraft".

Ring them up and see if they'll refund any of the charges, they might if you've not had any charges refunded in the last 12 months.

Other than that, get out your statements, see if they've ever charged you before, calculate how much and reclaim them using the advice on this site.

Hi, thanks for the advice - Haven't had any charges refunded in the last 12 months, so will give that a go first.

Thanks again!
