Default Abbey business charges.

Hi, I was directed to this website from Martin Lewis' MSE website and WOW! I'm not the only one with bank problems.
I have an Abbey business account and I am always in credit. I am really annoyed by Abbey charging me a total of £42.50 for paying too much money into the account! I paid in over and above the 'free' amount of cheques and cash without noticing and now they have hit me with the charge. I telephoned them to discuss a refund but their reply was that 'it was in their T's and C's' and they would not refund the charge.
Any advice appreciated or I'm off to someone else.....any alternatives?

Regards.

I'm sorry. Now I'm really confused.

They charged you for paying MORE into your account than you were supposed to? Why? Or am I completely misunderstanding?

Hope you can expand on this.

Abbey's 'free' business banking allows you to pay in upto 100 cheques and £3000 in cash per month. I inadvertantely paid in more cheques and cash and they have charged me £42.50! 'Customer services' won't give a refund! I have just written them a letter, if I don't get the charges back, I'm off.

I think buggering off may be your only recourse of action here.

Not very nice of them, but it does seem like it's a service rather than a penalty. It depends on the T&C's.

If it says that you cannot pay in more, then it's probably a penalty, if it says you can pay in so many for free but anything over that there will be a fee, then you are stuffed. Wave goodby to the 42 quid, but wave goodbye to Abbey as well.
