Question Claim For Charges - Abbey

Hi All,

I am just about to start a claim against the Abbey to reclaim my bank charges, i have read the "Consumer Action Group" step by step guide on how to do this and taken the necesary steps in opening another account else where.
At preasent i have an overdraft with the abbey of £2500 and they have sent me a letter telling me they have decided to drop this amount to £1750. They have given me 3 weeks to pay this amount or face charges!!! this has prompted me to take action against them. I had been reading into the claim process for a couple of weeks prior to this letter but i was concerned that maybe they would try and recover the full amount of the overdraft if i start this process.

Does anyone have any advice or information relating to my predicament?

If you have another account ready to use, does it matter that they will put more charges on?

If you have your statements, write and request a refund of your charges (template in library).
If you don't have statements then send a Data Protection Act letter (template in library) with the £10 fee, to request them. Any charges which are subsequently put on your Abbey account can be added to your claim later.

Good Luck

Make sure you open a parachute account before you start if you're worried they might close the account.
